Insulators: Key for Safe & Stable Power Supply

Have you ever noticed those ceramic or plastic components on power lines, electrical appliances, or even inside walls? They are all insulators. These seemingly simple and common products are always present in our daily lives and are so important. Let me take you through a brief understanding and explain the main reasons for installing these insulators. 

First of all, insulators prevent electric shock and ensure safety. Electric current can flow easily through conductors like metals, but insulators (such as rubber, glass or ceramic materials) can block the current. For instance, the rubber coating on the outside of power cords allows you to plug in a table lamp without getting an electric shock - without this coating, touching the wire could lead to a dangerous electric shock. In homes, insulators are also used in wall sockets and switch panels to separate the wires from surfaces that people come into contact with on a daily basis. In all electrical scenarios, this safety protection function is the most crucial reason for installing insulators. 

Secondly, insulators protect equipment and maintain stable power supply. For electrical appliances and power supply systems to function properly, short circuits must be avoided. Insulators act as "barriers" between different parts of a circuit. On high-voltage power lines, large ceramic insulators prevent the wires from touching the poles or coming into contact with each other. Without these insulators, the wires might touch, causing a short circuit, which could damage transformers, lead to power outages in residential areas, and even cause fires. In small devices like mobile phones and laptops, micro-insulators in batteries and circuit boards prevent components from malfunctioning due to leakage.
