How to choose the most suitable size and specification for the grounding fixed stay rod?

2025-11-18

Everyone knows that in electrical installation, grounding fixed stay rods are extremely important. However, many users find themselves in a dilemma: they clearly know they need grounding fixed stay rods, but lack the professional knowledge to make a wise purchasing decision. So today, I will tell you how to choose the most suitable size and specification of grounding fixed stay rods.

Firstly, the size of the grounding stay rod is usually determined by its diameter and length. Here are some reference standards:
- Diameter: Thicker rods typically have better conductivity and durability. Our grounding stay rods commonly have diameters ranging from 5/8 inches to 1 inch. For most applications, a 5/8-inch rod is sufficient, but in high-load situations, a 3/4-inch or 1-inch rod can be considered.
- Length: The standard length of the grounding stay rods we produce is usually 8 to 10 feet. However, in areas with higher soil resistivity, longer rods may be required. The most important point is that your technicians must ensure that the rods are deeply inserted into the ground to reach the moist soil layer, as this will improve conductivity.

The grounding stay rods we produce are usually made of copper, galvanized steel or stainless steel. Each material has its own advantages:
- Copper: It has excellent conductivity and corrosion resistance, but the price may be higher. It is suitable for environments with corrosion problems.
- Galvanized steel: This is an economical choice with good conductivity and durability. However, it may corrode over time, especially in humid environments.
- Stainless steel: It has extremely strong corrosion resistance and is suitable for harsh environments, but it is usually the most expensive option.

Once you have determined the appropriate size and materials, you need to consider the installation process. Your technicians must ensure that the electrodes are inserted vertically into the ground and are securely connected to the grounding system.
